Unlocking Opportunities: How to Get Your Coaching Funded through Access to Work

In today’s fast-paced work environment, everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their individual challenges. For disabled people in the UK, Access to Work is a government-funded scheme designed to support you in overcoming barriers at work. Whether it’s making physical adjustments in the workplace, providing specialised equipment, or offering tailored coaching and mentoring, Access to Work is a vital resource that can make a significant difference in your professional journey.

If you’re considering coaching as a way to enhance your skills, boost your confidence, help you to get the skills to be self employed or manage work-related challenges, the good news is that Access to Work can help fund this invaluable resource. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the process of getting your coaching funded through Access to Work and explain how our services can support you every step of the way.

What is Access to Work?

Access to Work is a UK government scheme designed to help disabled people start or stay in work. It provides financial support for reasonable adjustments, including modifications to your workplace, equipment, travel costs, and, crucially, personalised coaching. The goal is to ensure that you have the same opportunities as anyone else to succeed in your career.

Why Coaching?

Coaching can be an incredibly powerful tool, especially if you’re navigating the additional challenges that come with a disability. Whether it’s improving communication skills, managing stress, or developing strategies to overcome specific work-related challenges, coaching offers personalised support that can help you reach your full potential. Our coaching services are tailored to your unique needs, ensuring that you get the most out of your sessions.

How Can Access to Work Fund Your Coaching?

Here’s how you can secure funding for your coaching through Access to Work:

  • have a physical or mental health condition or disability that means you need support to do your job or get to and from work
  • be 16 or over
  • be in paid work (or be about to start or return to paid work in the next 12 weeks)
  • live and work (or be about to start or return to work) in England, Scotland or Wales – there’s a different system in Northern Ireland

 3. Assessment

  • Workplace Assessment: Once you’ve applied, an Access to Work adviser may visit your workplace to assess your needs.
  • Recommendation: The adviser will recommend reasonable adjustments, which can include coaching.

 4. Funding Approval

  • Grant Agreement: If your application is approved, Access to Work will provide a grant to cover the costs of the agreed-upon services, including coaching.
  • Direct Payment: In some cases, the funding may be paid directly to your chosen coaching provider, making the process seamless.
